Your storefront is often the first impression that clients get of your business. So, you want to make sure that your signs and awnings are looking great. When it comes to your awnings, keeping them clean will go a long way in maintaining the life, beauty, and quality of your awnings. How you should clean your awning depends on whether you have a metal or canvas awning.

For canvas awnings, it’s especially important to clean these regularly because they can easily show dirt, depending on the color, and because dirt and grime can damage the fabric over time. To clean canvas awnings, you first want to clean off any loose debris such as dirt and leaves; this can be done with a broom or brush, or even gloved hands. Next, you want to get a bucket of water mixed with a mild soap, such as one you would use for your laundry. Wet the awning with a water hose and then use a coarse/stiff brush dipped in your soapy water to scrub away dirt and stains. After you’re done scrubbing your awning, be sure to wash away any leftover soap and dirt with a water hose.

When it comes to metal awnings, upkeep is just as important as it is with canvas awnings. The steps are similar in that you will need a mild soap and water to clean off your metal awning. However, you’ll want to use a pressure washer to clean metal awnings rather than scrubbing it with a brush. Again, be sure to rinse off any leftover soap when you are done pressure washing your awning to prevent staining.
